January 25, 2018 at 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM

Location:5345 Herzberg Laboratories
Cost:Free

Abstract

Conducting UX research in the field of Healthcare can be challenging. Many aspects need to be taken into consideration; HIPAA privacy regulations, physician’s time, permissions, expectations, and the list goes on and on. Jennifer and Hala will talk about the method they used for conducting ethnographic research in the field of Nephrology, the challenges they faced, and how they overcame these challenges.

About the Speakers

Jennifer Fraser, Director of Design

Jennifer is Macadamian’s Director of Design and she brings more than fifteen years of experience working as an interaction designer. Jennifer has experience being thrown in at any phase of a project from discovery, analysis, and definition, to development and delivery. She works closely with clients to understand not only their needs, but also the needs of their customers. Jennifer has a holistic understanding of how to integrate design and development in an agile process, built on years of experience and much head banging (unfortunately not to music). She is a founding member of the Interaction Design Association’s Ottawa chapter and sits on the Design Advisory Board of Algonquin College. Jennifer holds both a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s in Architecture from Carleton University, which may, or may not, relate to her passion for designing and building cocktails.

Hala Al Jaber, UX Researcher

Hala Al Jaber is a User Experience Researcher at Macadamian. She is passionate about improving the overall user experience of any application or system that she works on, at any stage of its life cycle. Hala utilizes numerous qualitative and quantitative research methods to understand the needs of end users to ultimately create better products.

Hala holds a Bachelor’s degree in Interactive Multimedia and Design from Carleton University and an Advanced Applied Arts Diploma from Algonquin College. When Hala is not doing UX-y stuff, you can find her at a hot yoga studio.
