Dr. Barrera’s research aims to develop user-friendly systems and tools to secure home IoT networks. His group builds software to identify security and privacy violations on consumer IoT devices using network monitoring and analysis at various layers. Results are then presented to users to assist in the creation of network access policies for devices. Recent projects examine improving home automation platforms such as Home Assistant to better support home IoT security.
