“A Hingeless Pivot:” The Impact of Closer Ties with Asia-Pacific on Canada’s Foreign Policy
Canada’s closer integration with Asia-Pacific, particularly China, presents many challenges for Canadian Foreign Policy. This project examines the impact of a shifting balance of power in favor of the Asia-Pacific and how that shift impacts Canadian Foreign Policy. Why has Canada embraced Asia’s economic opportunities without closer political and security engagement? Why is there no Canadian‘pivot’ comparable to that of the US? What are the conditions under which foreign policy adjusts to changes in the security environment?
