Location:Korean Cultural Centre (150 Elgin Street, Unit 101)

Panels and discussion groups scheduled from 1:00-6:00pm, Korean Cultural Centre (150 Elgin Street, Unit 101)

This workshop seeks to expand the conversation on visual culture in the context of national celebrations. Taking into consideration the upcoming Canada 150 celebrations, participants will examine case studies of the works of artists of Asian and Asian Canadian descent, attempting to situate the work within a wider context of scholarship on global Asias and Asian diasporic art.

Discussion will be centered on curatorial practices and the politics of representation within national art collections. This workshop is part of the SSHRC-funded 2017 project, CANADA 150: Asian Canadians in Visual Culture, initiated by Alice Ming Wai Jim (Concordia University), Ming Tiampo (Carleton University), and Christopher Lee (University of British Columbia).

A finalized program is forthcoming.
Panels and discussion groups are free and open to the public.
