Simon Dalby is Professor of Geography and Political Economy at Carleton, and author of the forthcoming volume Security and Environmental Change (Polity).

In the aftermath of 9/11 technothrillers have adapted to the new geopolitical times by rearticulating American virtue and in some cases invoking religious themes more explicitly. Contemporary insecurity and political knowledges are refracted as tabloid geopolitics through these modes of popular entertainment. Reading the implicit geographies in these provides a contextual critique of legitimations of American violence.
