Mandate

At the Centre for Indigenous Support and Community Engagement (CISCE), we foster a welcoming environment where Indigenous students, staff, and faculty, and the broader Carleton community, can learn, grow, and connect. We create culturally-grounded and safe spaces for dialogue and learning, guided by Indigenous ways of knowing and being.

Our work focuses on nurturing a strong sense of belonging for Indigenous students while offering education, resources, and training that deepen understanding of Indigenous histories, worldviews, and contemporary experiences.

A three-part mandate guides us:

  1. Supporting Indigenous Students
  2. Supporting Indigenous Policy and Program Development
  3. Supporting the Carleton Community through Professional Development Opportunities, such as consultations, mediations, and facilitated learning sessions

All of our work is rooted in ancestral teachings and in respect for the Algonquin Nation, on whose unceded and unsurrendered territory the Carleton campus is located.
