Carleton University’s Senate, the highest academic body at the university, passed a formal motion declaring its support and endorsement of the Carleton University Strategic Indigenous Initiatives Committee (CUSIIC). The motion was passed on Jan. 25, 2019 during the Senate’s first meeting of the year.
The Senate recognized the important work the committee is undertaking as it works toward revitalizing Carleton’s Indigenous strategy and strengthening relationships with Indigenous peoples.
Committee co-chairs attended the Senate session to provide a presentation on their activities, part of an extensive engagement strategy which includes surveys and consultation sessions, both on and off campus, throughout 2019.
Feedback from these sessions will inform a draft report containing Carleton-specific recommendations forming an institutional response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.
