
Janna van de Sande
Métis
Janna van de Sande is a Métis and Dutch student finishing her Master of Arts in the School of Indigenous and Canadian Studies at Carleton University. Born in Ottawa, she has roots in the Netherlands, the Qu’Appelle Valley, Sask., and Medicine Hat, Alta.
Van de Sande’s major research project outlines the effect the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples had on research ethics. The purpose of this overview is to provide background knowledge for those involved at any point in the research process in order to support research with Indigenous Peoples that is respectful, ethical and responsive to community needs. She is working under the supervision of Prof. Kahente Horn-Miller.
Following graduation, van de Sande will be spending time on the land and practicing her fiddle. She intends to pursue a career in research and mentorship.
