Sabre Pictou Lee is a Mi’gmaq athlete and scholar with roots in Eel River Bar First Nation, N.B.
Lee is a graduate student at Carleton University’s School of Canadian and Indigenous Studies, where she is completing her master’s research project. She focuses on familial impacts and lived experiences of the Indian Act in Indigenous communities and explores this topic through storytelling.
Following a successful career as an international competitive ski racer, Lee became a varsity rugby player at Concordia University in Montreal, Que., where she was the only Indigenous student-athlete. Her commitment as an athlete and passion for learning drove her to become an advocate and mentor of Indigenous students. She completed her bachelor degree at Concordia University in First People’s Studies and Art History.
Upon completion of her master’s studies at Carleton, Lee’s goals include attaining a Juris Doctor of Law and returning to her community as legal professional.
