ABOUT US

People in cities across Canada are working to conserve nature through nature-based programs. Our team is looking at how these programs benefit wellbeing, social equity, and biodiversity.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to identify the information needed to maximize the benefits of urban nature-based programs. We are focusing on projects that support social equity since this is essential to healthy cities.

OUR RESEARCH METHOD

Our team is using a survey and a virtual workshop to gather information on urban nature-based projects. Participants to the survey and workshop include practitioners, researchers, policy-makers, knowledge holders, and community leaders.

We have also created an Equitable Cities Living Database and Map of urban nature-based programs. Organizations can submit their own urban nature-based project to be featured on the map.

Please visit our map page to submit your project!

OUR TEAM

We are an interdisciplinary team with skills in ecology, epidemiology, policy, social sciences, and urban planning. Our team uses approaches informed by a  “two-eyed seeing” framework or Etauptamumk and we aim to interweave Indigenous and Western ways of knowing.
