Office:Hello,

My name is Emmanuel Dare Alalade, and I am a PhD candidate in the School of Information Technology at Carleton University. I am working on a research project under the supervision of Prof. Ashraf Matrawy.

I am writing to invite you to participate in a study entitled "Privacy Threat Analysis Model (PTAM)." This study aims to understand better privacy threats' activities, possible information that these threats could collect, and the impact of their activities if they occur in an IoT system. To achieve this goal, we seek opinions from experts like you on understanding the activities of privacy threats in IoT systems. Your opinion is crucial in this study, which involves an online survey that should take around 45 minutes on the Qualtrics survey platform. With your consent, we will collect your thoughts on provided privacy threats and different tactics based on the MITRE ATTACK framework and techniques for these threats based on the LINDDUN privacy threat model.

To participate in this survey, you must be a privacy or security expert in academia or industry. The focus will include experts of any gender above 18 years of age with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the field. The questionnaire will also collect the participant's demographics, which will only include age, education, gender, country of residence, race, educational background and field of work (academic or industry).

We will protect your personal information to the extent that the survey platform Qualtrics provides, as indicated in Qualtrics' security statement. We assure you that your data will also be protected during data analysis. At the end of the project, the collected data will be securely stored until it is fully utilized. Research data will only be accessible by the lead researcher.

This project does not involve any professional and emotional risks. To protect participant identity, we will keep all responses anonymous and ensure that participants do not include personal information (name, place of work, address, etc.) except for their email address that will be used to send the compensation gift. Answers to the demographic question will contain selection options categorized into a range of answers to generalized participant responses.

Your decisions are respected in this study, and you have the right to end your participation at any time, for any reason, before the final submission. If you choose to withdraw before submission, all the information you have provided will be deleted. Participants have the right to withdraw their information after submission until one week after completing the entire survey. Data analysis will begin one week after the survey ends. After submitting their responses, participants can contact the lead researcher via the email provided in the consent form if they wish to delete their data before it is analyzed. However, to avoid disrupting the analysis process, participants cannot withdraw their responses once data analysis has commenced.

Participants will receive a $20 Amazon gift card as a token of appreciation for their time and effort in completing the survey. At the end of the survey, we will ask participants to provide their email addresses to ensure we send the gift card to a legitimate participant. Additionally, participants will be requested to summarize their thoughts on the survey upon completion. We will review the provided summaries to confirm that participants understood the questions and offered genuine responses. The gift cards will be sent only to those who provide authentic and valuable feedback about their survey experience. It is important to note that if a participant chooses to withdraw their data anytime, they will forfeit their eligibility for the compensation gift card.
