May 10, 2023: The Rebuilding First Nations Governance (RFNG) research project is very pleased to announce that Darcy Gray has joined the team as National Community Research Director. Darcy will play a leadership role to help ensure our partner community research requirements are matched with expertise and resources and help regional researchers and First Nation community members draw out and share the stories, learning and teachings about their experiences in a way that can be shared with other First Nations who are just starting the transition to self-government.
Darcy is a graduate of the Bachelor of Arts Community Studies at Cape Breton University, Master of Arts Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, and a graduate of Indigenous Policy and Administration from Carleton University.
Darcy also served as Chief of Listuguj for 3 consecutive terms from 2016 to 2022. During his time in office he worked to further the community on its path to self-determination, and was active on several local, regional, and national committees. He has also been a part of the Rebuilding First Nation Governance project since the beginning, serving as a Co-lead for the Peace and Friendship Treaty region.
Rebuilding First Nations Governance (RFNG) is a national alliance of First Nation communities and Tribal Councils, academic researchers and public sector practitioners created to support First Nations leadership and rights holders that have made the decision to transition out from under the Indian Act to their own inherent rights governance. This applied action research project is supported in part by a $2.5M SSHRC Partnership Grant.
