tānisi kīya nīwāhkōmākanak! Nathan Oakes nihtihsīkāson, ekwa nēhiyāwpwātahk nēwo tipāhatahmin āskīy sāwanohk kisisaskaciwan ōhci nīya. Hello my relatives! I am Nathan Oakes, and I am from Piapot First Nation Treaty 4 Territory south Saskatchewan! I would like to share my acknowledgment to all individuals who have presented me with support in my life, for without them I would not be where or who I am.
My formal education is in natural science physiology & pharmacology, and public health. I am currently a doctoral student in the College of Medicine, in Community Health & Epidemiology, University of Saskatchewan. I am grateful to be part of an academic program that allows me to continue to build skills I can use to help our communities.
I have diverse employment and volunteer experience in combination with lived experience that I combine as part of my building passion for the work I engage with today, especially as a new research associate in projects prioritizing rebuilding First Nations governance. I take particular interest in strengthening my foundations toward cultural healing, Indigenous health research, and strategizing public health frameworks. Overall, I am happy to be part of a larger mission for advancing the work as part of this group, and I am eager to learn from being part of a talented team!
