Many local #indigenous fishers are active collaborators on @IKGenFisheries research sampling. We are grateful to have Charlo Blacksmith helping @Concordia with mixed-stock harvest sampling of #brooktrout + #walleye in #Mistassini Lake, #Quebec this summer! Some beautiful bycatch captured while targeting #laketrout on Mistasiniishish (Albanel) Lake in #Quebec for FISHES (@IKGenFisheries) research. Fish that do not survive the experimental nets are donated to the #Cree Nation of Mistissini’s elders home for traditional consumption. pic.twitter.com/cBmg6MPp1u

One goal of FISHES is to incorporate #Indigenous place names in research reports+papers. We’ve recently learned that Lac Albanel, #Quebec – the location of our latest field expedition – is mistasiniishish ᒥᔅᑕᓯᓃᔑᔥ in #Cree, meaning ‘lesser great rock’. A beautiful place! pic.twitter.com/keek1Vzl9S
