Sustaining energy production and use is becoming increasingly challenging. Requiring innovative research into new and existing technologies, changes in consumer behavior and more creative policy and regulatory approaches.

The Carleton Faculty of Engineering and Design houses some of the most advanced research facilities in the nation. With the latest equipment from industry partners and continued investment into state-of-the-art laboratories, researchers and students from labs such as the Solar Energy Systems Lab have unparalleled access to world-class engineering and design facilities.

In partnership with the Center for Advanced Building Envelope Research, The SESL lab is located on Carleton Campus in Canal Building. This is where both experimental- and simulation-based research is conducted into a variety of topics and technologies relating to solar energy systems and efficient technologies.

Our lab apparatus focuses on:

  • Design and optimization of solar thermal systems
  • Sensible and latent heat storage
  • Energy efficient and net-zero energy buildings
  • Load management
  • Conventional and alternative energy systems
  • Renewable energy research and technology development

To get involved with our lab check out the Involvment Oppertunites.
