Prospective Students

Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada

Carleton is a wonderful place to learn. It is home to a competitive forensic psychology program, one of the few available in Canada. And it is the home of the Sexually Harmful Behaviours Research Lab! Come join us in our mission to reduce sexually harmful behaviours through research.

RA Volunteers

Students interested in working with me are encouraged to contact me, ideally with a project or topic area in mind. Reviewing this website and my recent publications is one of way of getting a sense of the projects I am currently working on. I understand that not all students have the privilege of being able to volunteer given funding situations, and I keep this in mind when reviewing student applications.

Interested in working in the Sexually Harmful Behaviour Research Lab to gain valuable research experience? We are looking for volunteers to help support our research endeavours. Tasks involves transcriptions of interviews, literature reviews, formatting, and many others. Task complexity progress with time. I am open to volunteers outside of Carleton University, though preference will be given to Carleton students.

Those interested in volunteering are asked to complete the Prospective Research Assistant Survey. Note that students start as unpaid research assistants.

Undergraduate Students

Thank you for your interest in completing an honours thesis within the Sexually Harmful Behaviours Lab!  For those interested in Fall 2025, Carleton University has an online application that all students who are interested in completing Honour’s thesis must complete. This online form, sent via the Psychology Department, is sent in late fall to students. The Department will send everyone updates and reminders when the online application form becomes available. The deadline to submit applications is typically December. Importantly, students who do not apply by this December deadline will not be eligible for the thesis class during the 2025-26 academic year. I plan to accept two honour’s thesis student in Fall 2025.

If you have any questions or if you wish to obtain academic advising, please contact psychology@carleton.ca

Graduate Students

MA: I expect to accept at least one MA student starting Fall 2025. For all those interested, please ensure to peruse Carleton’s Website for information on the program, requirements, and deadlines. Graduate Information Sessions are available to gain more information on Carleton graduate programs and our admission process. I will be contacting all those who apply that list me as a primary supervisor of interest to conduct interviews typically late January 2025 and make a decision. I do not meet with students prior to the application deadline so that there is equity across applicants. I do send a short survey to those who apply to my lab and then schedule interviews. Successful applications are notified in the Spring.

Ph.D. : I will be taking at least one Ph.D. student for Fall 2025. I generally only accept Ph.D. students that I have worked previously with either as a research assistant, independent project student, thesis student, or someone that previously volunteered for the lab. This is because the Ph.D. is a long commitment so I believe it is important we first establish that we work well together before committing to each other. I do not meet with students prior to the application deadline so that there is equity across applicants. I do send a short survey to those who apply to my lab and then schedule interviews.
