Marked health disparities exist within Aboriginal communities across Canada, particularly in remote regions, but also in urban areas. Unfortunately, the experience of Aboriginals with the Canadian health care system has not been one that engenders trust or cooperation. A new approach to ensuring access to health care resources for Aboriginal communities is needed.
This workshop is targeted to health care practitioners, public health workers, and policy developers who are committed to improving Aboriginal health. It will provide a context for understanding the health issues of Aboriginal communities in Canada, and to provide the tools and perspective for approaching health care that puts the needs of people and the community first.
To cover conference costs, a modest registration fee of $50 CDN/person ($25 for students) will be charged.
