Students’ Conceptualizations of Cultural Factors in a Helping Relationship: A Simulation Study

Director of the SIM Social Work Research Lab Kenta Asakura, alongside Toula Kourgiantiakis and Jane E. Sanders will be presenting at the Council on Social Work Education’s Annual Program Meeting.

This presentation explores how simulations are an exemplar way of enhancing cultural awareness and sensitivity to cultural factors in the helping relationship. It facilitates the development of holistic competence and prepares students for field and interprofessional practice. The qualitative study that will be shared examines MSW students’ conceptualization of cultural factors impacting the helping relationship during a simulated interview.
