Stephanie Baird is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work at King’s University College, Western University. Stephanie’s research and teaching interests build on more than twenty years of clinical and community social work experience. Her research focuses on understanding three broad areas: 1) intimate partner violence and trauma; 2) social work practice responses; and 3) social work education and practicum education. Informed by her social work practice experience, her research aims to examine social work practice models to ensure they address the complexity of service users’ identities and experiences, and the impacts of multiple levels of oppression and marginalization on individual experiences.

Stephanie’s experience with simulation research and education began when she was a PhD student and Research Assistant with Professor Marion Bogo at the University of Toronto. There, she also had the opportunity to work on research projects and participate in the OSCE with Dr. Toula Kourgiantakis. More recently, Stephanie has continued to participate in simulation-based research and education through using simulation to teach specific practice models, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy skills and neuroscience-informed skills. She has also been involved in projects led by Dr. Sarah Tarshis in using simulation-based research to both conceptualize trauma-informed practice with survivors of intimate partner violence and prepare service providers for this work.
