The installation of a Physical Security System (PSS) in your Department is an investment in the safety of the staff, students, and faculty that enter your workspace, as well as an investment in protecting the assets in your Department.
From the security assessment to the actual installation, it is CSS Technical Services’ goal to ensure a seamless transition for your Department to the new Physical Security System. CSS will work with Departmental administrators and required campus partners to ensure that your Departments new PSS is installed and configured to best meet the needs of the Department while maintaining the adequate level of protection given the risks identified in the security assessment.

- How is CSS involved?

A key component in every security system at Carleton University is people; specifically, CSS has a role in all physical security system layers:
• With Card Access systems, CSS patrols and verifies locations to ensure that locks are in fact responding to the systems programmed specifics.
• CSS monitors and responds to Intrusion and Panic Alarms (for a monthly fee).
• With Surveillance Cameras, CSS monitors (for a monthly fee) and provides analysis to recorded video at the request of the Department.
- What are the Department’s responsibilities?

Once the Department has completed the installation of a physical security system; they will also receive a Terms & Conditions document which outlines the specific responsibilities of the Department.
- What is the installation timeline/process?

The installation timeline a physical security system varies according to the components and the number of layers involved. Once the Department submits their eShop to FMP (along with the other required documentation) they will be contacted and informed of the installation timeline.
It’s important to note that FMP contracts some of their installation out to contractors – every effort is made to accommodate around Departmental preferences for installation times.
