Student Bio

Ahmed is a Master of Applied Science Mechanical Engineering candidate at the University of Ottawa and is currently under the supervision of Professor Eric Lanteigne in the LTA Flight Lab. Ahmed’s thesis project focuses on the development of a controller that utilizes Machine Learning techniques such as reinforcement learning for the yaw and lateral control of an unmanned airship.

During his undergraduate career, Ahmed undertook various projects pertaining to mathematical modelling and mechanical design, as well as an undergraduate thesis related to the same autonomous blimp he is currently working on. Ahmed was also a member of the uOttawa Formula SAE team, where he helped design the aerodynamic components of the car, including the undertray, nose and diffusers. Ahmed has also completed different projects during his first semesters as a graduate student, including topics such as the system identification of a blackbox system and machine learning for the control of a quadrotor.
