Carleton-CASI-Skymeet Area X.O Drone Event

Carleton’s UTILI Program, CASI Ottawa Branch and SkyMeet are excited to be hosting a special joint in-person event at InvestOttawa’s Area X.O testing facility featuring special guest InDro Robotics.  This event will include a walking tour of Area X.O ‘s unique testing and partnership facilities and then a seminar from InDro Robotics on their innovation activities in ground and aerial robotics.

This is an in-person only event with very limit spots on a first-come/first-served basis.  Space is limited to members of CASI, Area X.O, Carleton/UTILI students/staff/faculty, and members of SkyMeet.

Agenda (6:30-8:30)

  • Arrival (arrive at main gate by 6:15 to allow time for check-in)
  • Site safety briefing and Introduction to Area X.O by InvestOttawa staff and walking facility tour
  • Special guest talk by InDro Robotics (https://indrorobotics.ca/) on their drone and advanced robotics technology, drone operations and training/testing partnership with Area X.O.
  • Introduction to the new Drone Sport and volunteerism initiative by the SkyMeet team.

Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

Your spot will only be confirmed by email prior to the event along with instructions on accessing Area X.O through the secure gate.

Area X.O is the all-weather experimentation and R&D complex in Canada’s Capital that enables and accelerates the safe and secure development, testing, validation, demonstration and application of next-generation smart mobility, connectivity, and autonomy technologies. Combining diverse expertise with Ottawa’s telecom and cybersecurity strengths as a tech hub, Area X.O helps startups, scaleups, SMEs and their collaborators address grand challenges and opportunities, and accelerate time to market. It fuels the creation, commercialization and adoption of breakthrough innovations that benefit our community, economy, and environment. These applications span many priority sectors where Canada has the potential to increase its share of lucrative domestic and global markets. These include intelligent transportation; telecom; ICT; smart agriculture; environment and natural resources; defence, security, and public safety; aerospace and unmanned aerial vehicles; and smart buildings and cities. SkyMeet is a monthly meeting for remote piloting enthusiasts.  Each meeting includes items such as presentations, informal networking and comparing notes as well as some fun contests, flying or otherwise.  In this new industry, many never have to chance to meet peers discuss, compare, notes, help each other.  Members of this free event include Pilots, Photo/Videographers, Inspectors, Surveyors, Farmers, First Responders, SFOC Authors and Managers and so on (https://skymeet.ca/).

CASI (Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute) is a not-for-profit scientific and technical organisation devoted to the advancement of the art, science engineering and applications relating to aeronautics, astronautics, and associated technologies and their applications. The Institute consists of Branches across Canada and specialist Sections that cater to specific areas (https://casi.ca/).
