Student Bio
Devon Rudyk is a graduate of the Bachelor of Engineering program at Carleton University. He completed this degree with a concentration in Architectural Conservation and Sustainability and a Minor in the History and Theory of Architecture. During these studies, Devon gained a greater appreciation for our cultural heritage and the recording strategies used to digitalize and protect these historic buildings and monuments.
Devon is currently pursuing a Master of Applied Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on Building Digitalization, under the supervision of professors Jeremy Laliberté and Mario Santana Quintero. As a student in both the NSERC CREATE UTILI and the NSERC CREATE Heritage, Devon’s research focuses on the use of drones in the building digitalization process, with specific interest in using machine learning for the structural rating of historic buildings.
During his first year in the NSERC programs, Devon completed an internship in Ireland with ACP group, a team of architectural conservation consultants dedicated to helping others best preserve Irish cultural heritage. As an intern, he assisted in surveying multiple historic sites, many of which required the use of a drone to fully assess. Devon is excited to continue his studies and future career bridging RPAS and heritage.
