Student Bio
Julie Earle grew up in the small agricultural town of Chatham, Ontario. She completed her bachelor of science degree at McMaster University where she majored in Honours Environmental Science Co-op and minored in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). During her undergrad she completed two 8-month co-op placements with Environment and Climate Change Canada. Her first placement was spent with the Ecological Assessment Division where she worked as an Assistant Evaluator. Her second placement was with the Pollutant Inventories and Reporting Division where she worked as an Assistant Physical Scientist. During her time in Ottawa, Julie became very fond of the city and knew she wanted to come back after graduation to advance her academic and professional career. Julie currently attends Carleton University as a Master of Science student under the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.
Julie’s research aims to examine the role of land-use, land-cover, and climate change as synergistic drivers of microclimate. Understanding the role of these drivers can assist in the development of land management strategies that can fulfill both sustainable agriculture, and biodiversity conservation under climate change. Study sites in Eastern Ontario near the Ottawa area will be chosen for her work. She will make use of thermal drone imagery and other field equipment to capture abiotic variables at biologically relevant scales.
