This study assesses the hosting practices at Canadian Universities for at-risk scholars by looking into the various ways in which placements/fellowships for at-risk scholars are conducted, the existing challenges and support systems, host-fellow relationships, and environment for fellows’ scholarly growth, integration and meaningful participation in academic communities in Canada. This is a qualitative study based on in-depth interviews with current and former at-risk scholars, host institutions and Scholars At-Risk advocacy groups and activists in Canada. The purpose of this study is to help identify best practices in academic hosting in Canada that create a supportive, positive, productive and dignified environment for at-risk fellows, allowing them to make meaningful contribution to the scholarly growth of their host institutions.
