Academics, researchers, educators, and activists with a clear goal to aid Afghan scholars and activists (ASA) facing challenges in Afghanistan. Our mission is to support and preserve their valuable contributions to knowledge. PPP was conceptualized by a group of scholars and activists who had years of lived experiences of either being at-risk/displaced and/or creating organizational capacity in Canadian universities to champion academic freedom. These scholar-researcher-activists believed in creating a model for the Canadian higher education system that can develop into a sustainable, humanistic and rights-based approach to supporting and resettling at-risk scholars, activists and students in Canada.

The rule of the Taliban significantly impacted higher education in Afghanistan, causing difficulties for universities, colleges, and scholars. Academic freedom is now at risk, hindering the preservation of local knowledge and raising concerns about the future of education and the role of Afghan scholars in society. The project aims to help displaced Afghan at-risk scholars and activists arriving in Canada to find safety within the academic kinship here, as well as preserving their academic freedom, past and current local knowledge(s), and providing opportunities for future knowledge networks in diaspora. This project supports scholars, civil society actors, activists and journalists from Afghanistan who have been forced to flee, especially women and ethnic minorities. Even though the project is specifically focused on the Afghan crisis, its broader aim is to examine how Canadian higher education institutions can be better prepared and more responsive to receiving at-risk scholars, activists and students in moments of crises in different country contexts.

We firmly believe in academic freedom, human rights, and dignity. Our vision is a world without limits to knowledge and progress, where scholarly voices play a crucial role in shaping the global future. We aim to create an inclusive and strong global research community that values diversity, academic freedom, and knowledge preservation, all of which are essential for our success.

Our collective efforts will ensure safety, support, and opportunities for sharing unique perspectives, empowering Afghan scholars and activists. Contribute to this important mission. Let’s work hand in hand to provide refuge, support, and opportunities for Afghan scholars and activists, enabling them to contribute their unique perspectives.
