Welcome to ARTEL

Advanced Road & Transportation Engineering Lab (ARTEL) is a collaborative transportation engineering research group established in the Fall of 2017. Currently, researchers from Carleton University, Ottawa and Memorial University, Newfoundland are actively participating in multiple research projects in this group. The main goal of our research group is to contribute in the road transportation field, in particular, in the development of safe and sustainable roads  in Canada. In Canada, we have over 1.13 million kilometers of roads (two-lane equivalent km)  which is the 7th largest road network in the world. This road network plays a key role in the safe movement of people and goods, and the economic advancement of the country. Therefore, the country invests billions of dollars every year in construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, and management of these roads.

The focus of our current research is to enhance road pavement performance and sustainability, to design climate-resilient pavement systems, and to develop an improved pavement management system. We also strive to contribute to the body of knowledge in the field of study, and to the generation of highly qualified personnel for the industry and academia. To realize these goals, we take collaborative efforts in our projects involving my graduate and co-op students, and colleagues from multiple universities.
