Professor Alex Ellery is a Canada Research Chair in Space Robotics & Space Technology at the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department. His research interests include space robotics, the design of serviceable satellites, on-orbit satellite servicing, the design and analysis of planetary rovers, the design of entry, descent, and landing systems for planetary exploration, robotic drills & instrumentation for astrobiological surveys, and biomimetic design for space applications.
His primary expertise applies robotics and artificial intelligence to space exploration, including exploiting planetary in-situ resources and using 3D printing technology to extraterrestrial material. His goal is to develop state-of-the-art technology to realize self-replicating machines on the Moon to implement innovative global climate change mitigation solutions.
