Description:
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented student to join our Energy Sector Task Force. As a Research Analyst Co-op/Intern, you will dive deep into critical research and initiatives aimed at enhancing the security, protection, and resilience of Canada’s energy sector. Working closely with key stakeholders and a multidisciplinary team of intelligence personnel, analysts, researchers, and mentors, you will tackle the complexities of the energy landscape in an effort to create strategic priorities . This role is an unparalleled opportunity to contribute to developing a playbook and a roadmap that will guide future opportunities across NC-CIPSeR hubs and sectors nationwide.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Critical Infrastructure Analysis (~70%):
- Conduct in-depth research into hazards, threats, and vulnerabilities in the energy sector, using methodologies like data analysis, stakeholder interviews, and scenario modeling.
- Analyze and adapt security policies from across government entities for the energy sector, focusing on nuclear, oil, gas, and renewable sources.
- Collaborate on comprehensive analyses to identify vulnerabilities and propose innovative mitigation strategies.
- Engage in emerging threat research and contribute to the development of risk models and resilience strategies.
- Support policy development, offering recommendations to fill gaps and enhance security measures.
Policy Development Tools and Templates (~20%):
- Design policy tools, templates, and databases for effective project management and communication strategies.
- Prepare analyses for security scenarios, supporting the formulation of robust policy recommendations.
- Visualize data and information in reports to clearly communicate policy recommendations.
Data Management and Records Maintenance (~10%):
- Maintain accurate and accessible policy documents and records.
- Update databases and systems with critical security data and documentation.
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Infrastructure Protection, International Security, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- A keen interest in the protection, security, and resilience of critical infrastructure, especially within the energy sector.
- Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication abilities and teamwork skills; ability to also work independently.
- Previous experience in research or analysis is an asset, not a requirement.
