Consultation: Canada Research Coordinating Committee
The consultation will focus on three priorities:
- creating a new tri-agency fund to support international, interdisciplinary, fast-breaking and high-risk research that generates new knowledge;
- strengthening equity, diversity and inclusion in research; and
- support for early career researchers.
Budget 2018 proposed to invest more than $1.7 billion over five years to support researchers through Canada’s granting agencies and research institutes. This includes $275 million over five years to support the new Tri-Agency Research Fund. Stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on a draft funding model that the CRCC has developed to ensure we maximize the positive impact on academic research in Canada.
Consultation will be held in communities across Canada. Input from this process will inform the development of a call for proposals this fall for the Tri-Agency Research Fund. The online consultation is open to all Canadians until August 27, 2018.
The CRCC was created to improve the coordination efforts of Canada’s granting agencies—SSHRC, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research—as well as the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

Consultation: Tri-Agency Research Data Management Draft Policy
The three federal research funding agencies—the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) (the agencies)—have developed a draft Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy, which aims to support Canadian research excellence by fostering sound digital data management and data stewardship practices.

News from the Office of Research Ethics
Successful completion of the TCPS-2 Course on Research Ethics (CORE) is now required of all researchers seeking ethical clearance from CUREB A/B. For those who have not yet completed the tutorial, you can get started here: https://tcps2core.ca/welcome.
The online tutorial TCPS 2: CORE (Course on Research Ethics) is an introduction to the 2nd edition of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2). It consists of eight modules focusing on the guidance in TCPS 2 that is applicable to all research regardless of discipline or methodology.
The purpose of TCPS 2: CORE is to provide an introduction to TCPS 2, primarily for researchers and, secondarily, for REB members.
If this is your first time accessing TCPS 2: CORE, we suggest you click on the “CORE User Guide” for some tips on navigating the modules. There are also some other useful links below. Or you may go directly to the program by clicking the Log In button at right.
