News from the Office of Research Ethics

Successful completion of the TCPS-2 Course on Research Ethics (CORE) is now required of all researchers seeking ethical clearance from CUREB A/B. For those who have not yet completed the tutorial, you can get started here: https://tcps2core.ca/welcome.

The online tutorial TCPS 2: CORE (Course on Research Ethics) is an introduction to the 2nd edition of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2). It consists of eight modules focusing on the guidance in TCPS 2 that is applicable to all research regardless of discipline or methodology.
The purpose of TCPS 2: CORE is to provide an introduction to TCPS 2, primarily for researchers and, secondarily, for REB members.

If this is your first time accessing TCPS 2: CORE, we suggest you click on the “CORE User Guide” for some tips on navigating the modules. There are also some other useful links below. Or you may go directly to the program by clicking the Log In button at right.

Have you completed the Equity and Diversity Questionnaire for CIHR?

As of May 15, 2018, all CIHR application participants must complete the questionnaire before an application can be submitted. To explain further, this means that principal investigators and co-applicants need to complete the questionnaire—and, of course, so does the nominated principal investigator (NPI) prior to submitting their application. “Collaborators” are the only exception to this rule.

To avoid additional pressure around application deadlines this fall, CIHR is encouraging all potential applicants to complete the questionnaire during the summer break. It’s quick. It’s easy. And, it supports better research. To guide you through the process, CIHR has posted instructions and FAQs on their website. If you have any additional questions, you can also get in touch with the Contact Centre at support@cihr-irsc.gc.ca.
