Understanding and Safeguarding the Agri-Food Systems with the Power of Analytical Chemistry
“You are what you eat” and a healthy environment is essential for securing agri-food integrity! To better safeguard the health and well-being of consumers, systematic investigations of the agri-food systems from the farm to the fork are needed.
At the FACT Lab, we focus on the advancement and application of analytical chemistry and technologies to better assess, understand and solve the persistent and emerging challenges in the agri-food systems. Out interdisciplinary approach integrates analytical chemistry, nanomaterials, microfluidic “lab-on-a-chip” platform, metabolomics, bioinformatics, and data science for the development of simple, rapid, cost-effective, reliable and smart point-of-need sensors and instrumental methods to monitor and trace food products. By exploring the green analytical chemistry paradigm, we aim to minimize the environmental impacts of our methods. Using these novel technologies, we aim to provide better understanding of the issues in the agri-food systems and thus support the regulation updates. Also, the novel analytical methods will serve as the last barrier of protection to integrity of agri-food products from farm to fork, better protecting all the stakeholders throughout the entire value chain.
