Better Jobs Ontario (formerly Second Career)
Get skills-training and financial support when you qualify for Better Jobs Ontario.
The Better Jobs Ontario program is open to all laid-off workers and jobseekers, priority is given to applications for people who were laid off because of COVID-19 and want to retrain for jobs in sectors that have good potential for future employment.
The Canada Job Grant provides opportunities for employers, individually or in groups, to invest in their workforce, with help from the government.
The job grant provides direct financial support to individual employers or employer consortia who wish to purchase training for their employees. It is available to small, medium and large businesses with a plan to deliver short-term training to existing and new employees.

The Canada Training Benefit program aims to help Canadians pay for their training and keep their skills relevant. It includes:
Canada Training Credit
A non-taxable refundable tax credit that helps with training fees. Eligible works may accumulate a credit balance of $250 per year, up to a lifetime limit of $5000. The credit can be used to pay for up to half the cost of tuition and fees.
Employment Insurance Training Support Benefit
Provides workers up to four weeks of income support through the Employment Insurance (EI) system. This benefit helps workers on training leave cover living expenses.
To be eligible for the Canada Training Benefit, you must:
- File an income tax and benefit return for the year
- Be a Canadian resident
- Be between the ages of 25 and 64
- Have earning for work of at least $10,000, including maternity or parental leave benefits
- Have an income below $150,000

Carleton University Employee Career Development Fund
The Career Development Fund (CDF) is available to Carleton employees who wish to pursue training associated with their career development objectives within the University.
The $2000 limit will be based on the date of reimbursement of fees/expenses with the May 1st to April 30th fiscal year.
Applications should be submitted four weeks prior to the start of your course to allow for assessment and approval of the learning opportunity.

The Indigenous Economic Development Fund (IEDF) provides grants and financing to Indigenous entrepreneurs, businesses, communities, and organizations. The fund helps to promote economic development and improve employment opportunities for Indigenous people.
The IEDF provides grants and financing through three funding streams:
- Economic Diversification Grant
- Business and Community Fund
- Regional Partnership Grant

The New Relationship Fund (NRF) supports First Nations, Métis communities, and Indigenous organizations efforts to:
- Build consultation and engagement capacity and expertise
- Create jobs
- Develop business partnerships
- Improve economic opportunities

The RBC Future Launch Scholarship could be awarded to those who show a clear vision for their future:
- Canadian youth between 15-29 years old
- Enrolled part time in school or not in school at all
- A Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Grades and transcripts are not requires
- Cannot work at RBC or be a dependent of someone working at RBC
The $1500 scholarship may be used for many different things, including:
- Short-term courses
- Workshops
- Certificates
- Necessary equipment or books
