Seismic retrofitting of existing piles using geofoam
The aim of this study is to establish the potential increase in lateral capacity and stiffness of pile foundation systems in loose ground conditions. The proposed construction technique will involve using a novel injection system that utilizes the polyurethane foam grout, which has weight, strength and curing time advantages to increase lateral capacity and seal the connection between the pile and the footing. This project will evaluate the capacity and performance characteristics of the geofoam reinforced pile system, as an innovative retrofitting technique, and establish an integrated framework for its analysis and design.
