School for Studies in Art and Culture – Film Studies presents a Seminar:
The Voice in Cinema, Television, and New Media
Friday 26 February
10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
472 St. Patrick’s Building
The seminar will feature the following talks:
- Charles O’Brien, “The Dubbed Voice”
- Gunnar Iversen, “The Concept of the Voice of God: A Critique”
- Paul Théberge, “’Look at Me When You Talk to Me’: The Discursive Voice in an Intermedial World”
The familiar characterization of cinema as a visual art has enabled a neglect of the soundtrack that endures into the present day, when key aspects of sound continue to receive minimal attention from scholars of film and media. One such aspect provides the focus for the panel’s three short presentations: the role of the voice in film, television, and new media.
All members of the Carleton community are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
