Known as ICSLAC, the Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Culture is a haven for intellectually rebellious researchers. We offer a vibrant teaching and learning environment where research transcends conventional boundaries, and where interdisciplinary ideas and new dimensions of thought open up. We aim to be a place where we proudly nurture research projects that might be impossible elsewhere and a home for those who seek independence as well as a sense of belonging.
We offer two interdisciplinary graduate programs:
The PhD in Cultural Mediations attracts graduate students who seek the freedom to define and redefine their objects of study; the freedom to draw, redraw or erase boundaries among disciplines; and the freedom to put together eclectic committees that support and enhance one-of-a-kind projects. Starting from a place of deep disciplinary knowledge and theoretical rigour, we set the stage for productive academic discomfort. Inside and outside the classroom, we create an intellectual community that leads to greater engagement and understanding. Our research areas include, among others:

The Graduate Diploma in Curatorial Studies is designed to train curators in both the practical and the critical skills that are crucial in the curatorial profession. Combining hands-on experience in a practicum, with institutional training in a major museum, and critical theoretical engagement in the classroom, this program gives students a well-rounded education that enables them to jump-start their careers.
