The Impact Dynamics Research Group, founded by Oren Petel, is a research unit within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University. Our research group, located in Ottawa (Ontario), investigates experimental high-strain-rate and shock wave phenomena with a focus on materials and loading events relevant to personal protective equipment. Our experimental research facilities include a high-velocity gas gun impactor, which enable investigations into fundamental and applied dynamic material behaviour as well as a linear impact facility featuring a high-speed x-ray cinematography and high-resolution CT capability to investigate injury biomechanics.
