Welcome to the ISSO Newsletter!
The International Student Newsletter is sent to undergraduate and graduate international students enrolled in one or more course at Carleton University every second Wednesday. Each edition includes news and information specific to international students such as information relating to immigration issues, the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP), events specific to international students, etc. and is distributed by the International Student Services Office (ISSO). We look forward to connecting with you!

Holiday Lights Across Canada
Join the International Student Services Office (ISSO) on December 8 for a colourful evening of festive lights in Canada’s capital! Students will walk part of Ottawa’s official festive lighting route and then watch the winter lightscapes multimedia show at Parliament Hill. Participants will meet ISSO volunteers on campus and then take the OC Transpo bus downtown, so please bring your U-PASS.

Canadian Museum of Nature
Explore the wonders of nature and various exhibits at Canada’s national natural history museum: The Canadian Museum of Nature on November 24. ISSO Volunteers will be meeting students on campus and traveling to the Museum as group using OC Transpo. Admission is free!

Preparing for Winter Workshop
Did you miss out on our in-person Preparing for Winter Workshop? If so, be sure to attend our upcoming virtual event on November 25. This session will be led by ISSO student volunteers who will be offering peer-to-peer advise and information about weather conditions, how to dress for the cold, and seasonal changes that can impact your well-being.

Richard Van Loon Scholarship
The Richard Van Loon Scholarship has been created to reward an outstanding international student from an African country. Eligible recipients must be a full-time student proceeding from one year to another in any program at Carleton University with a valid study permit. Consideration will be given to students in financial need. Applications are due February 1, 2023.

Graduating in February? You can Extend your UHIP!
If Fall 2022 is your last term of study, your University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) will be expiring December 31, 2022. Students applying to graduate in February 2023 can can extend their UHIP for 6 months or until such time as they may become eligible for OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan). The 6 month premium of $378 (single) for extending your UHIP will be added to your student account. Email our UHIP Administrators at uhip@carleton.ca with enrolment request and proof that you have applied to graduate. Be sure to include your Carleton student ID number in your correspondence.

"Persian Gulf" wins Through a Global Lens Photography Competition
Congratulations to the 2022 winning entry, Persian Gulf, submitted by Niloofar Sabet for winning this year’s Through Global Lens Photography Competition. The ISSO received over 200 votes on this year’s photo gallery. Our campus clearly has many talented photographers. Check out this year’s submissions which can still be viewed online.

While membership on the Newsletter distribution list is automatic at the beginning of each term for all international students registered in at least one course, members are free to unsubscribe at any time.
