Scholarship/Awards Categories


Marie Odette Gabrielle Clay Memorial Award ($1,100)

Awarded annually to an undergraduate international student who is proceeding from one year to another of a program and has been involved in student life.

Donor: Friends and family of Marie Odette Gabrielle Clay, B.A. 1988. Endowed 2000.

Deadline to apply:  Tuesday, February 28, 2017 @ 4:00 p.m.   Submit your cover letter stating your eligibility for this award, as well as a copy of your resume.  You can email your application to Maria Walt at maria.walt@carleton.ca or submit in person at the ISSO. 

International House Award ($600)

Awarded to an undergraduate international student in his or her graduating year attending Carleton University on a student visa who, in addition to maintaining the academic levels of the degree program, has been an active participant in extracurricular activities in the University.

Donor: International House. Endowed 1972.

Richard Van Loon Scholarship ($5,000)

Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Richard J. Van Loon Scholarship Committee, this scholarship is intended for an outstanding international student from an African country. Eligible recipients will be full-time students proceeding from one year to another in any program at Carleton University with a valid study permit. Consideration will be given to students in financial need.

The 2017-2018 application is now open (deadline November 15, 2017). Eligibility requirements and application form can be found on the Awards Office website


DFATD Scholarships

The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) is responsible for the administration of various international scholarship programs offered to students and faculty by Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD).

Carleton is required to apply for these scholarships on behalf of the student. To apply, please contact:

  • the ISSO at isso@carleton.ca for scholarships related to studying at Carleton or
  • CURO (Carleton University Research Office) at curo@carleton.ca for scholarships related to conducting research.
