  • Non-maleficence: Learning analytics will be used to benefit students’ learning and are not intended to limit individual students. We understand that data does not tell the entire story and, therefore, cannot identify students.
  • Privacy and security: The acquisition of learning analytics will meet the requirements and regulations of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). Carleton’s policies for secure management of data will also be adhered to. For more information on Carleton’s data privacy policies please visit the Carleton University Privacy Office site.
  • Transparency: The use of learning analytics at Carleton will be entirely transparent to all users involved. This means that students are to be made aware of the use of their data.

All Data that is collected by Learning Analytics tools and processes at Carleton is governed by Carleton’s Policy on Data and Information Classification and Protection, as well as the Policies and Guidelines set by the Office of Research Ethics.
