Options for creating & sharing video

October 10, 2017 at 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Location:349 St. Patrick's Building
Cost:Free
Audience:Language Instructors

Video is super-useful in language teaching & learning but it’s not always easy to work with. How can I include a YouTube video in my course? What if I want students to record their own videos for me, how can they send them? How can I create and share my own videos with students? All good questions. In this session, we look at some of the tools that you and your students can use. Such as:

  • Techsmith FUSE, an app that records with a cellphone and uploads it to the user’s own private Carleton server
  • Techsmith Relay, similar to FUSE but allows users to record the screen of their computer & webcam (or not)
  • Quicktime, a Mac program for recording a video or your screen
  • AirDrop, a Mac function that allows students to send individual videos to the instructor in SP 349

We will also discuss the benefits and pitfalls of using public sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo.
