The MSSC is a creative and intellectual home for a community of scholars and artist/scholars in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, across Carleton University, in Canada and beyond. It recognizes the vibrant focus on Canada that has long distinguished the Music program at Carleton, and it supports Carleton’s community-engagement and social justice aims. External research fellows from across Canada bring expertise and insights from academic, creative, and activist perspectives. MSSC members have expertise in the intersections of music and sound studies with archives, accessibility, arts equity, community-engagement, creative technologies, critical disability studies, critical improvisation studies, critical race studies, ecology, education, entrepreneurship and leadership, engineering and design, ethnography, film, gender and sexuality, Indigenous studies, law, material culture, performance, settler colonialism, and sociology.
