Two Carleton University DGES graduate students (Rupesh Subedi and Ariane Castagner) traveled to Inuvik, Northwest Territories in March 2017 to participate in a drilling campaign along the nearly completed Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway (ITH). This project aimed to develop a research corridor along the ITH and was in collaboration with the Northwest Territories Geological Survey, Northwest Territories Department of Transportation and the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC). Soil and ice cores were drilled along the ITH and the samples were processed for porewater extraction and moisture content analysis at the Aurora Research Institute in Inuvik. The remaining samples were sent to the University of Ottawa, the University of Alberta and the GSC for further analyses and storage.
