Nicholas Schiavo i is the Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations at the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA), where he spearheads national advocacy efforts on behalf of Canada’s independent producers. These creative entrepreneurs develop, produce, and distribute content across television, feature film, and digital media platforms.

In addition to his work at the CMPA, Nicholas is the founder and Executive Director of No Conversion Canada, a national grassroots nonprofit coalition dedicated to banning conversion “therapy” practices. Under his leadership, No Conversion Canada played a pivotal role in the passage of Bill C-4 in December 2021, officially outlawing conversion “therapy” practices across Canada.

Nicholas’s career spans a range of leadership roles, including Director of Federal Affairs at the Council of Canadian Innovators, Director of Policy and Government Relations at Impact Public Affairs, and Policy Analyst for Fisheries and Oceans Canada on the G7 Task Force. He has also worked internationally as an Ontario Global Edge Fellow in Nairobi, Kenya, and with the Green Party of Canada during the 2015 federal election campaign. Over the years Nicholas has been fortunate to work with a number of global institutions as a delegate, including the Commonwealth, the World Bank Group and the United Nations.

From 2017 to 2019, Nicholas served as Program Director of the Young Diplomats of Canada, where he collaborated with Cabinet Ministers and the Prime Minister to advance a national youth agenda. In 2018, he was selected as a Future Leaders Connect Fellow by the British Council, working with the University of Cambridge to develop a long-term policy action plan on LGBTQ2+ rights.

Recognized as one of “Canada’s Future Foreign Policymakers” by Open Canada and an “Emerging Leader in Politics and Government” by The Peak, Nicholas is deeply committed to community organizing. He serves on the boards of It Gets Better Canada (IGBC) and the Canadian Advocacy Network (CAN), championing equity and community in all facets of his work.

Nicholas holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Western University and a Master of Political Management from Carleton University’s Clayton H. Riddell Graduate Program.
