Stephen McGlenn is an 8th generation settler Canadian primarily of Irish and Scottish descent. He grew up on a small family farm in Treaty 7 Territory, present day Southern Alberta. Stephen became interested in Indigenous history from a young age and completed his undergraduate degree in Native American Studies from the University of Lethbridge. He then moved to Coast Salish Territory and attended the University of British Columbia, completed a Master of Arts degree in Indigenous Community Planning in 2014. Since then, Stephen has been working at the community level in First Nation Lands Governance. He is an advocate for Indigenous rights, title and jurisdiction based on the inherent right to self-government. He is also a musician and plays in a Coast Salish heavy metal band called Lekwepsem with his wife, Bonnie Leggat, a member of Leq’á:mel First Nation.
