Shad Carleton

Carleton University is located in the heart of Ottawa, nestled between the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal. As members of a diverse community within the nation’s capital, we acknowledge and respect the location of our campus on the traditional, unceded territories of the Algonquin nation. This acknowledgement serves as a reminder of the importance of our location and our ongoing commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

Founded in 1942, Carleton University is a dynamic research and teaching institution with an ongoing dedication to academic excellence and student achievement. We provide a robust student experience to more than 31,000 full and part-time students at the undergraduate and graduate levels and have supported over 169,000 alumni in reaching their goals. Our more than 900 faculty members are recognized internationally for their scholarship and cutting-edge research in more than 50 disciplines.

Our reputation is built on an unwavering commitment to our student’s academic development and personal growth so that they may continue their academic journeys as engaged and active members of the community. Our programs are wide-reaching and span across a broad range of interests, yet our commitment to providing interdisciplinary, active and hands-on approaches to learning remains consistent across all departments. With a strong commitment to preparing students for a bright future, we provide unique experiential and co-op opportunities with government and private sector partnerships to provide them with the knowledge and skills to achieve their academic and career goals.

Despite the challenges brought on by COVID-19, our university has not only adapted but flourished with new ways of learning, conducting research and interacting with each other. This year at Shad, we are looking forward to embracing both technology and in-person communication to foster relationships and learn from one another, and develop important skills for academic and career success.

Through the Shad Carleton experience, you will see first-hand everything that Carleton has to offer. Guided by a staff of core faculty that have a long history with Shad and a sincere passion for providing transformative experiences to Shad participants, we are eager to welcome you to the Shad 2022 program.
