The Science Technology Centre (STC), located at Carleton University, is a research, prototyping, manufacturing and service department. Being centrally located between downtown and the airport makes the Centre easily accessible to local businesses and visiting clients.
Established in 1957 as a small workshop in the Physics Department, STC has developed an international reputation for manufacturing instrumentation for several High Energy Physics (HEP) research institutes such as CERN, SLAC, DESY and FERMI. Recently we manufactured components for SNO, ATLAS/FCAL and TRIUMF.
Now in its seventh decade of operation, STC has developed into a specialized manufacturing facility with highly skilled technicians, instrumentation specialists and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programmers. In addition to large components manufactured for the HEP area, we also fabricate small intricate components such as artificial heart components, artificial wrist joints and spinal implants for medical research.
As the Ottawa area has become home to several telecommunications companies, STC frequently collaborates with them to manufacture prototypes and assembly jigs.
As well as providing personal service to our customers, we are equipped with a full range of machinery including CNC Milling Centres, CNC Lathe, and a variety of conventional machines, waterjet cutting and welding equipment.
Our mission is to offer the highest level of craftsmanship, while aiding in the development of research tools for the University and the Community. We look forward to new challenges and opportunities through partnerships with new and existing clients.
