General 2024 Information
- The season will run from January 2024 – April 2024
- Weekly workshops are held on Wednesdays (with some exceptions such as High School exams, March break, etc.)
- All workshops will be held in-person at Carleton University
There are many ways you can get involved with the Technovation program! Below is more information about the specific roles.
Mentors
As a mentor, your role is to support teams of 1-5 eager young women in your area of expertise. This includes helping the teams: keep on track, manage time and meet deadlines, guide solutions to problems and develop their ideas, & maintain enthusiasm and engagement throughout the theme.
Time Commitment: As a mentor, you are scheduled to attend the weekly workshops that will run for 2 hours each for the themed weeks (2-3 weeks).
Eligibility: Must be over the age of 18, all genders welcome, provide a Police Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector, & do not need any experience or background in technology but should be able to say “I’m not sure, let’s figure it out together”
Speakers
Speakers will deliver one or more interactive workshops to cover one of the four Technovation pillar themes: ideation, coding, business, or pitch. Responsibilities will include: Personalizing the material to make it interactive & instructing and encouraging curiosity and learning.
The presentation content will be provided, however, you will be asked to create your own presentation slides and make a fun and interactive presentation based on the topic(s) for the week. We encourage you to add small activities that will test the students’ knowledge so that they can better understand the material. Presentations should last between 30 minutes to 1 hour including the interactive components.
Time Commitment: As a speaker, you will be committing 1-2 hours, this includes preparing and presenting the content. Speakers can present more than one workshop topic. We encourage speakers to stay after their presentation to help the teams.
Eligibility: Must be over the age of 18, all genders welcome, & experience with the topic you will be presenting
