Welcome to the home of the Uninhabited aircraft systems Training, Innovation and Leadership Initiative (UTILI), an established research, training, and industry-engagement community led by Carleton University with partners from the University of Ottawa, Queen’s University, L’École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), Université de Sherbrooke, and Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO). UTILI was originally launched as an NSERC-funded Industrial-stream CREATE program, running from 2019 to March 2026, to train engineers and scientists in the safe and effective operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), more commonly known as Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) or “drones”.
Although the formal CREATE funding period has concluded, UTILI activities continue through our established community of students, researchers, industry partners, and UAS professionals that now includes our excellent alumni! We welcome interested students, researchers, industry members, and members of the wider UAS community to reach out and connect with us.
We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we work and study at Carleton University is the traditional and unceded territory of the Algonquin Nation.
