TANZANIA, EAST AFRICA
The Peace Matunda School and Orphanage located in Tanzania in East Africa is a non-profit organization that opens its doors throughout the year for those wishing to come and work with communities in need of education and welfare support.
The school and orphanage was founded in 2005 by a Tanzanian. Unambwe Zephania Kaaya, who is a professional wildlife guide and community leader was born and raised in the area. After witnessing the difficulties he saw his people facing on a daily basis, he initiated the project for the benefit of his community.

GHANA, WEST AFRICA
The Flodan international academy is a school for children of poor parents located at Teshie, Accra, Ghana. It was established by the late Mrs. Florence Osabu-kle and her husband Professor Daniel Tetteh Osabu-kle of Carleton University (retired) acting as philanthropists. The objective is to provide children of poor parents the same standard of basic education available to children of the affluent.
Two students from Carleton university may volunteer through the Institute of African studies to teach English, French, Science, Computer applications, or Mathematics at the school each year from May 15 to August 15 (Internship is cancelled for the 2017 Summer) .
Selected students will purchase their own air tickets to and from Accra, Ghana. On arrival in Accra, students will be picked from the Kotoka airport to the residence of Professor Daniel Osabu-kle at Teshie, where they will be provided with free accommodation, free food and free transport to and from the school for the duration of their stay in Ghana.
In addition, the selected students may choose to do some directed studies or collect some research data under the supervision of professor Osabu-kle while in Ghana.

The Sankofa Center, is a U.S. operated charity that is educating village youths and adults about how HIV/AIDS is transmitted and prevented, while changing perceptions using culturally comprehensive methods- African dance-dramas- in Ghana, West Africa. They also conduct free counseling & testing and provide links to treatment and life-saving drugs for thousands of women, men, and children in Ghana. Programs consisting of a local crew and cohorts of international intern from the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom run throughout the year.
In conjunction with UCLA Department of African Studies research, S.C.A.D.C. fuses traditional African dance, drama, & con-temporary art genres with W.H.O. health information to educate Ghanaian youths & adults about HIV/AIDS. These very necessary performances are both entertaining & educational. Their program utilizes the vibrant energies of interns & a local team to tour various villages & schools to help eradicate HIV/AIDS in Africa through culturally appropriate methods! They also conduct risk assessment/risk reduction counseling & free rapid HIV testing during village outreach to link those needing treatment with medical care as outlined by Ghana’s National AIDS Control Programme. Interns are accommodated in the Sankofa Center Compound dormitory with exposure to real world traditional Ghanaian life with trusted host families living in the compound. However, they have the security of Western trained local staff, health and safety protocols, and American trained coordinators & staff liaisons to assist interns throughout the duration of their tenure.
